Advantages of 24V LED Strip Lights

Today we will specifically talk about the advantages of 24V LED Strip lights, which may be useful to customers considering buying led strips for low-voltage lighting systems. You may be faced with the choice of 12V DC and 24V DC led strip lights. Most people will think “what’s the difference? Which one should I choose?”, So 12V or 24V LED Strip light…What is the difference? how to choose? And what are the benefits/negatives? You can refer to our other article 12V or 24V LED Strip, How to Choose? I hope it will be useful to you.

Difference between 12V and 24V LED Strip Lights

12V vs 24V led strip

Most of our LED strips are available in 12V DC and 24V DC. As long as you choose the right power supply, the difference between 12V DC and 24V DC is not very noticeable.

If you don’t know much about LED strips and it’s your first purchase, we recommend choosing 12V DC strips because the distance between the cutting lines is very short. This gives you more flexibility to cut the LED strip to your desired length. If you are looking for the highest efficiency, we recommend you choose 24V DC as it may reduce the voltage drop.

Longer Running Series

Actually, the voltage drop of the 24V led strip lights is less than that of the 12v. We usually advise customers that 12V led strip are usually up to 5m long (powered from one end), but 24V can run much longer, maybe 7m from one end. So, if you need to run long led strips, I recommend that you choose the 24v one.

24V requires Less Conductor

In fact, a 24V LED system will draw half the amount of current as a 12V LED system to achieve the same power level.

Total current, rather than voltage, determines the thickness and width of copper conductors needed to transfer power safely.

If excessive amounts of current are forced through a small or narrow copper conductor, resistance inside the conductor itself will become significant and contribute to voltage drop and heat generation. In very extreme cases, this can even lead to electrical fires. All else equal, a 24V LED system can get away with half of the electrical conductor requirements.

Less Wiring

With 24V LED strip lights, the amount of wiring required can be significantly reduced, saving you money. Increasing the voltage causes less current to flow through the system, which means you can use cheaper, thinner wire. You’ll need fewer power connections for the same size installation.

Bottom Line

The difference between 12V and 24V led strip lights is usually insignificant in comparison, but you’ll often come across these options. Where 12V LED strips are recommended for small installations, such as vehicles or other applications that require a 12V battery. For larger projects like office and home installations, you should consider a 24V LED strip. Hope this article brings more faith in the advantages of a 24V led strip lights system!
